Accessibility scanning that tells you the truth
We built WCAGsafe because small businesses were getting ADA demand letters, turning to $490/yr overlay widgets that made things worse — and had no affordable, honest alternative that actually fixed the problem.

The problem we saw
Web accessibility lawsuits have grown over 320% since 2017. In 2024 alone, more than 9,100 businesses were sued for having inaccessible websites. Most of them were small businesses — restaurants, e-commerce stores, professional services — that had no idea their site was at risk.
The tools available to fix this were broken in two different ways. Enterprise platforms charged thousands of dollars per year and produced reports only a developer could understand. Overlay widgets like accessiBe promised a one-click fix — but the FTC fined accessiBe $1 million in 2025 for misrepresenting their widget as a compliance solution, and data showed 22.64% of ADA lawsuits that year targeted sites that already had an overlay installed.
The middle ground — an affordable scanner that gives business owners plain-English results and real fix instructions — did not exist. So we built it.
What we built
A scanning tool built on open-source technology, designed for people who run businesses — not just people who build them.
Transparency first
We tell you exactly what engine we use — axe-core, the open-source standard behind Google Lighthouse and Chrome DevTools. No black box. No proprietary scoring that hides real issues.
Built for business owners
Most accessibility tools are written for developers. We translate every violation into plain English with the business impact explained clearly — so you understand what is at risk without needing a technical background.
Real fixes, not patches
Overlay widgets patch the surface while leaving broken code underneath. We identify actual WCAG violations in your source and give your developer the exact instructions to fix them properly.
Honest about what we are
WCAGsafe is a technical scanning tool. We flag violations and help you fix them. We do not provide legal advice, and we do not claim that a passing scan eliminates all legal risk. We believe in being straight with you.
Our technology, openly stated
Most accessibility tools don't tell you what engine powers their scans. We do — because the technology behind a scan determines how much you can trust the results.
| Scanning engine | axe-core (open source) |
| Same engine used in | Google Lighthouse, Chrome DevTools |
| Standard tested against | WCAG 2.1 Level A & AA |
| DOJ reference standard | WCAG 2.1 AA |
| PDF scanning | Built-in on paid plans |
| PDF/UA check | Pro & Agency plans |
axe-core is open source and maintained by Deque Systems. Its rules are publicly auditable — the same rules that power Google Lighthouse, Chrome DevTools accessibility audits, and Microsoft's accessibility testing tools.
Who WCAGsafe is for
Small business owners
You run a business, not a dev team. You need to know your risk and what to fix — in plain English, not WCAG jargon.
Developers & agencies
Deliver accessibility reports to clients with PDF export, fix instructions per violation, and white-label options on Agency plan.
Organizations with PDFs
If your site publishes documents, forms, or reports, WCAGsafe scans your PDFs for accessibility issues and PDF/UA compliance too.
What your report actually contains
Every WCAGsafe report is a complete, ready-to-act document — not a raw list of error codes. Here is what is included.
AI Executive Summary
A plain-English overview written for the business owner — not the developer. Explains your score, your highest-risk issues, and a recommended remediation timeline.
Compliance score + violation breakdown
An overall score out of 100 with critical, serious, moderate and minor violations counted separately, plus a legal risk assessment based on severity.
Per-page analysis
Every page scanned shows its individual score and violation count — so you know exactly which pages carry the most risk. Basic scans up to 10 pages · Pro up to 50 · Agency up to 100.
Fix instructions with code examples
Each violation includes a plain-English explanation of who is affected, why it matters legally, and the exact HTML change your developer needs to make — with a working code snippet.
PDF document accessibility scan
Upload PDFs alongside your website scan. Each PDF is checked for tagging, reading order, heading structure, alt text, language, and document title.
PDF/UA compliance check
Pro and Agency plans run a full PDF/UA conformance check — the strictest accessible document standard — to confirm your PDFs meet accessibility requirements end to end.
